ACMI Global Campus Conference

Get equipped! Get connected! Get inspired!

“For the last 40 years, the Association of Christians Ministering Among Internationals (ACMI) has held an annual conference to bring together ministries, local churches and individuals for resourcing, partnership and encouragement towards fulfilling the Great Commission through ministering to international students. In forty years, this conference has only been held once in Canada, over 20 years ago. But God is doing something unique in the ‘global country’ of Canada that has caught the attention of the nations and caused her to be chosen as the venue for the 2019 ‘Global Campus’ Conference in the country’s most multi-ethnic city: Toronto!”   Click here to learn more about the conference. Early bird discounts are available through March 31st! If you desire to pay in Canadian dollars, please register here. If you desire to pay in American dollars, please register here. Questions? What Would You Do? – The Immigrant Experience

In October 2018, Experience Magazine published an interactive journey through eight different immigration stories. “Every American immigrant, from every era, has a story — shaped by laws, demographics, economics, racial attitudes, and decisions made in the name of opportunity and love.” Click here to follow the paths of eight immigrants from different parts of the world, and see what you would do in response to the choices they faced. Each journey has at least three possible endpoints, and you will see that the experience is shaped by both personal choices and factors beyond an immigrant’s control.

Hispanic parents who speak Spanish to their children declines across immigrant generations

Being Hispanic does not mean you automatically speak Spanish. My ancestors came from Germany and the language is not in my vocabulary. How these children of immigrants meet Jesus and worship needs to be considered in church planting and outreach. Spanish also needs to be offered as needed for discipleship and following Jesus as well.

40 million in the US speak Spanish at home (US second language)
61% of Hispanic immigrants are Spanish dominant
32% are bilingual
6% of second-generation Hispanics are Spanish dominant
<1% of third or higher generation Hispanics are Spanish dominant
7% of immigrant HIspanics are English dominant
75% of third-generation Hispanics are English dominant

Intergenerational outreach and discipleship need to consider these figures when planning and being involved in these ministries.
